The median sales price for a home in the city was $415,000 in May 2016, which is a 17.7% increase from the $352,500 median recorded in May 2015. Homes are also selling at a much faster pace this year than last year. The average number of days that a home spent on the market this past May was 19 days, a significant drop from the 29 days a home spent on the market in May of last year. The number of new listings were down this past May compared to May 2015, reaching 1135 after recording 1193 last year.
Currently Portland is a sellers’ market when it comes to real estate. Prices are rising, homes are being snatched up quicker and the amount of listings are decreasing. If you’re looking at purchasing in the area, now is a great time to do so.
While these rises won’t continue for the entire year as the market will go through its “down” period from September to February, there isn’t a reason to expect these statistics from continuing the same trends year-over-year.
